Building Trust: The Foundation of Every Home and Every Relationship

In July of 2016, I found myself immersed in one of the most grueling experiences of my life—KOKORO 44, a public Navy SEAL-style Hell Week event in Temecula, California. It was a three-day version of the SEALs’ legendary five-day crucible. From the moment it started, the instructors made one thing crystal clear: “You won’t make it alone.”

At first, I didn’t quite understand the gravity of that statement. I’ve always been driven, disciplined, and determined—surely I could muscle my way through. But as the days turned to nights and the nights back into dawn, the physical and mental toll became overwhelming. That’s when I finally got it.

Trust wasn’t just a nice-to-have. It was the only way forward.

I had to put my full faith in the men beside me—brothers I had only just met. Egos were checked at the gate. There was no room for lone wolves or individual glory. If we were going to cross the finish line, it had to be together. Shoulder to shoulder. Pain, fatigue, and exhaustion became secondary to the bond we formed through shared adversity and total trust.

That weekend broke me down in the best possible way. It reminded me that real strength is found in unity—and in trust.

And the same is true in business.

In this business—and in life—finger-pointing is easy. Blame is easy. What’s hard is standing in the fire together and saying, “I’ve got your back.”

It’s cliché because it’s true. In a world full of marketing spin, curated content, and carefully filtered success stories, it’s easy to get lost in the noise. But people still crave what’s real. They want something they can count on. Someone they can count on.
