Love People, Use Things. Don't get them mixed up.
Love People!
Love People. Use Things. Never Get Them Mixed Up.
By Jim Steg, Steg Custom Homes
Building luxury homes—that’s the easy part.
Don’t get me wrong, it takes vision, precision, and a deep respect for craftsmanship. But after years of doing this, I can tell you with full confidence: blueprints, budgets, and boulders don’t keep me up at night. People do.
Because no matter the business you're in, it always comes down to people.
At Steg Custom Homes, we build extraordinary homes—but more importantly, we build relationships. That means truly seeing the people we work with: our clients, our crews, our craftsmen, our suppliers. Every one of them has a story, a family, a future they care about. When we take the time to listen, show dignity, lead with respect, and invest in who they are—not just what they do—that’s when the magic happens.
We’ve built homes with million-dollar views, but nothing compares to the view you get when you see someone light up because they were valued, not just used.
There’s a simple phrase I try to live by: Love people. Use things. Never get them mixed up.
Unfortunately, the world often flips that. People get treated like tools, and things—money, materials, status—get worshipped. That’s backwards.
You don’t build legacy homes without a foundation. And you don’t build a legacy company without values. This one is foundational for us: People come first.
The truth is, when you take care of your people, they take care of everything else. They show up with pride. They pour care into their work. They create experiences—not just structures.
If we build beautiful homes but forget the human beings behind them, we’ve missed the point.
So whether you’re a client, a trade partner, or a stranger reading this on a slow Tuesday—remember this: success is measured not just by what you build, but by how you treat the people building it with you.
Let’s never get that mixed up.
